Trip Overview
The Bagdwar hike is a beautiful trek located in Shivapuri National Park, just north of Kathmandu. It begins from Budhanilkantha, home to the famous sleeping Vishnu statue, and takes you through dense forests of rhododendron, oak, and pine trees. The trail offers stunning views of the Kathmandu Valley and distant snow-capped peaks, such as Langtang and Ganesh Himal, making it a favorite for nature enthusiasts and birdwatchers.
The hike is moderately challenging, taking about 3 to 6 hours for a round trip. Along the way, trekkers pass by Nagi Gumba, a Buddhist monastery that provides a peaceful stop and panoramic views of the surrounding area. The forest is rich with wildlife, including monkeys, deer, and various bird species, adding to the hike’s natural appeal.
At the end of the trail lies Bagdwar, the sacred spring that marks the source of the Bagmati River. This site holds religious significance for locals, with a small temple and serene surroundings perfect for reflection. The Bagdwar hike offers a combination of spiritual heritage, natural beauty, and tranquility, making it an excellent option for a day trek near Kathmandu.
